Research

As an academic center, we value the importance of fostering clinical and research excellence among our residents and provide the opportunity for residents to engage in research activities throughout their clinical years. This research program is overseen by Dr. Jason Pomerantz.

P 300 2We place an emphasis on academic research during a dedicated research year midway through residency training and support our resident’s continued participation in research projects once they complete their research year and return to clinical training. Our residents develop and create independent projects, are assigned mentors to help them achieve their research and career goals, participate in local and national conferences, and take part in further clinical and translational research training.

Surgical residents can choose to perform basic science research, clinical research, outcomes research, global health, or translational research. There are opportunities to work in the laboratories of leading basic science researchers throughout the university. Residents are encouraged to apply for institutional and national grants to fund their research endeavors and we have numerous resources to aid in these endeavors.
